What’s New: Accessible and Inclusive Event Planning Toolkit
Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada has developed an excellent guide that takes an approach to event planning within the best practices and knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. What sets this toolkit and checklist apart from similar resources is it’s “consider this” approach rather than a list of “dos and don’ts”.
At first glace the toolkit and corresponding checklist may appear intimidating however it is well organized, and information is readily accessed. The checklist is divided into four sections including: planning, execution, post event and long-term EDI. The importance of engaging diverse groups in the event planning process is a central theme that is stressed throughout this resource. The considerations are recommended for in-person, virtual and hybrid formats.
This tool will be of interest to anyone who is responsible for arranging meetings, conferences, forums, and events.
