What’s New: Creating a More Inclusive Hiring Process

What does an inclusive hiring process look like? Thomas Forstner, Head of People & Talent at Juro, provides an insightful answer to this question in the blog titled 8 Ways to Create a More Inclusive Hiring Process in 2022 featured in iveyexec.com.  Forstner begins the blog by suggesting that a clear understanding of the concepts of diversity, inclusion and belonging needs to exist to be successful in creating a more inclusive hiring process. Building on this understanding, Forstner then outlines eight ways to champion inclusivity Including:

  • Choose your axis: Focus on who you want to join the company and remain focussed on your priorities

  • Know where to look: Identify partners and champions that can connect you to the audience that you want to connect with

  • Job specifications language: Develop job descriptions using language that is positive, respectful, and tailored to the people you are hoping to attract

  • Make salary clear: Salary transparency fosters a message that people will be paid fairly

  • Transparency: Be clear about the values, practices, and expectations of the company

  • Keep the process straightforward: Ensure the application process is defined to foster success and not to intimidate or overwhelm

  • Interview inclusivity: Introduce strategies to minimize bias from the interview process

  • Respect their existing commitments: Be flexible with scheduling an interview to be considerate of other obligations of the candidate

Fortner reminds the reader that implementing a series of conscious steps to be more inclusive in the hiring process fosters better results.
