What’s New: Disability Inclusion Toolkit

Commissioned by the Ford Foundation, the Disability Inclusion Toolkit has been designed for organizations to advance disability inclusion. The toolkit was authored by Mia Ives Rublee with the assistance of editor and designer Andraéa LaVant.

Rublee stresses that “In order to become more disability inclusive, organizations will need to cycle through systemic changes to break down the intentional and unintentional barriers that have historically kept disabled people from participating.”

This toolkit is built on the fundamental belief that to create inclusive workplaces engaging people with disabilities in the planning, development, and implementation of organizational change is paramount.

The key topics featured in the toolkit include:

  • introduction to disability inclusion

  • disability inclusion and organizational change

  • disability employment

  • hiring practices

  • retention and promotion

  • accessible event planning

  • language guidelines
