What’s New: Does Your Organization Have a DEI Plan or Strategy?
“Only a third (37 per cent) of organizations have a formal documented strategy on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), according to a new report, revealing stagnation over the last three years.” This trend is the impetus for the article titled What are the top challenges for HR in boosting diversity and inclusion efforts? by Dexter Tilo featured on the Human Resources Director (HRD) website.
Tilo quotes the findings in a report from Mclean & Company that only 35% of businesses have an informal DEI strategy, The barriers to developing and implementing a DEI strategy that were identified by respondents included:
lack of dedicated time for DEI work (59%)
need for dedicated resources and funding (43%)
lack of relevant data (34%)
lack of leadership support (29%)
The author concludes the article with the following advice for professionals: "Employees are expecting organizations to provide a safe, engaging, diverse, and progressive work experience, with increased opportunities for personal and professional growth. This will require an employee value proposition that is intentional and actioned by the organization. It will be up to organizational leaders, and their HR teams, to deliver on these expectations."
