What’s New: Inclusive Leaders

Inclusive leadership is critical to effectively championing diversity and fostering inclusion in classroom environments. To better understand the link between diversity and inclusive leadership a research team from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln undertook a research initiative to identify the attributes and impacts of inclusive leaders. The findings of this endeavour are featured in the Journal of Leadership Education.   

The focus of this initiative focused on the following three questions:

  • What are the attributes of an inclusive leader?

  • What are the impacts of an inclusive leaders on followers?

  • How do the impacts of an inclusive leader on followers relate to the inclusive themes: belongingness and uniqueness?

This comprehensive study explored seven attribute categories including: authentic leadership, changemaker, collaborative, commitment to diversity and cultural competency, ideals, offers followers support, and openness.
