Westover addresses the difference between “belonging,” “diversity”and “inclusivity” in a clear-sighted manner. He identifies eight important steps as being needed to advance belonging, diversity and inclusivity in the workplace:
Educate your leaders and invest in meaningful diversity training.
Listen to employees and establish a shared vision.
Form an inclusion council and be proactive about developing specific inclusion initiatives.
Create opportunities that appropriately connect with employees and foster better social bonds.
Create opportunities to interact with and celebrate employee difference.
Create employee resource groups and establish mentoring initiatives.
Hold better meetings, where all views are welcome and sought out.
Report goals and measure progress.
