What’s New: University Inclusive Teaching Checklist

The Office of Teaching and Learning of the University of Denver has published a comprehensive inclusive teaching checklist that highlights student-centered approaches. This checklist provides practical strategies to foster learning environment for all students. The sample questions, discussion strategies and best practices provides a good starting point for university faculty and students. There are six components to the checklist that include: 

  • Who we are: faculty and student biographies.

  • Communication: sample listening, speaking and discussion ground rules.

  • Showing up: norms of collaborative work, Zoom and online learning etiquette.

  • Difficult Conversations: “How are you feeling” exercise, and Critical Incident Questionnaire.

  • Course Glossary: key terms and resources to build baseline knowledge necessary to success in the class.

  • Support: Basic Needs statement, and menu of campus resources to support students.
